The Airbus satellite constellation Pléiades has been mobilised by the International Charter Space and Major Disasters.
Pléiades Neo and SPOT have been mobilised over the city of Marrakech, Amizmiz, Tizguine and Mouzda. Tasking was used to obtain coverage of the entire disaster area on 10th September, 2023.
Several buildings collapsed on themselves in the city of Amizmiz and in the village of Tafeghaghte, close the epicenter of the 7.2 earthquake occurred on September 8, 2023. These buildings have been identified in this Pléiades Neo imagery acquired on September 9, 2023, the day after the earthquake.
The village of Tafeghaghte has been 80 % destroyed. This Pléiades Neo imagery was acquired one day after the earthquake and before the emergency arrives.
Destruction north of Tafeghaghte: the old houses are mainly destroyed, the more recent houses have not collapsed but may be cracked. A yellow bulldozer begins the first clearing.
Destruction south of Tafeghaghte: only the recent buildings have withstood the damage. Red carpets have been laid out away from the rubble and in the shade of trees to welcome the first survivors.

The destruction is most significant in the center of the western town of Amizmiz where the buildings are the oldest.
