With 3 days to go, the second Pléiades Neo satellite is ready to launch from Kourou, French Guyana on 16 August 2021! It will be phased 180° with Pléiades Neo 3 on the same orbit to start forming the new constellation.

One Step Closer to the Launch, the 2nd Pléiades Neo satellite has just been encapsulated within the Vega fairing.
Yesterday the teams in Kourou have mated the 2nd satellite of the constellation on Vega’s payload adapter.
The in-orbit testing phase of Pléiades Neo 3 is now over and Pléiades Neo 4 is ready to launch from Kourou in French Guyana on 16th August 2021.

Pléiades Neo Satellites Arrive in Kourou for Launch The first two Airbus-built Pléiades Neo imaging satellites have arrived at Cayenne airport, French Guiana and are now en route to the European Space Centre in Kourou. Scheduled to launch in April 2021 on a Vega launcher, Pléiades Neo 3, the first of the new generation of very high-resolution satellites will join the existing Airbus fleet of optical and radar satellites, with increased resolution, revisit and coverage. It will be closely followed by its twin, Pléiades Neo 4, also scheduled for launch on a Vega rocket a few weeks later.

VHR2020 becomes Pléiades Neo : Pléiades Neo is born
In June 2017, Airbus unveiled the name of its new constellation, VHR 2020, with a resolution of 30 centimetres. The same month, a contract was signed with Arianespace at the Paris Air Show for two dual Vega C launches starting mid-2020. In September 2017, Airbus renamed the constellation “Pléiades Neo”.

Project Launch
Airbus Defence and Space announced the launch of a new constellation of four Very High Resolution (VHR) optical Earth observation satellites. Entirely funded by Airbus, this project aimed to enhance the existing Pléiades system to meet market demands by 2020 and 2021.
This future constellation, featuring four identical satellites, was designed to provide bi-daily revisit capabilities, improving upon the daily revisit capability of the original Pléiades satellites. Key milestones included the start of the design phase, the official project announcement, and the commencement of manufacturing for critical equipment. This marked a significant step forward in Earth observation technology.
