Norway's International Climate and Forests Initiative Training
Welcome to the NICFI Level 2 User Training Dedicated to SPOT Products
As part of Airbus’ contribution to Norway's International Climate and Forests Initiative (NICFI), millions of square kilometers of high-resolution SPOT images have been delivered to create a historical imagery database of tropical forests worldwide. This SPOT database is made available to selected users with "level 2" access status. This page provides detailed information about the SPOT products offered by the program, including their technical specifications and the countries they cover. Thanks to the SPOT World Heritage, users can also access SPOT 1-5 imagery dated back to 1986 in order to perform deeper analysis.

30 years of SPOT - Historical archive imagery
0:39
The SPOTWorld Heritage Program, an initiative by the French Space Agency to open up 30 years of extensive and historical archive imagery from SPOT 1-5 dating back to 1986, could be an invaluable resource for monitoring deforestation. By comparing past and present images, it is possible to detect changes, make predictions, and mitigate forest losses.
How to conduct archive searches and download SPOT images?

Can we expect to have more SPOT products available through the NICFI Satellite Data Program?
All SPOT data has been fully allocated, and no additional SPOT images will be available in the program. However, it is still possible to access the wider SPOT archive with open access through the SPOT World Heritage program, a CNES French Space Agency initiative. As for SPOT, they have been allocated based on user requirements and represent the priority areas requested by the majority of users. There are no additional SPOT images available within this program.
What are the SPOT products available in the program?
SPOT 5 5m Colour - 3 bands (Green, Red, NIR) SPOT 6/7 6m Colour – 3 bands (Red, Green, Blue, NIR) The SPOT 5 2,5 and SPOT 6 1,5m PAN bands are not part of the program and are therefore not available when accessing SPOT products.

Until when will we have access to the NICFI Satellite Data Program?
The program was originally scheduled to end in September 2023 and has recently been extended until September 2024. Any data downloaded before the program ends can be used in perpetuity under the license terms. The program team and NICFI are also exploring additional longer-term storage and access options.
